McCray’s

The Rooftop View From McCray’s Tavern

First, you’ll weave your way around to the back.

Climb the stairs and walk the cat-walk.

Texas Margarita & Deep Eddy Tea

Then, it’s time for a drink. (Or, maybe two)

It was a lovely spot to linger and enjoy our bright, shiny day.

Chicken Livers With Tomato Jam

These were beautifully cooked with tender, blushing pink interiors.

The Southpaw

This burger was NOT small.  The bacon slices were just that huge.  The burger as a whole was incredibly good.  But, oh my goodness, that bacon was just out of this world.  The sprinkle of cajun spices made it even better.

Mac & Cheese

Crispy bits on top, creamy interior

This macaroni and cheese was everything we want in the dish.  It was ooey, gooey, creamy, cheesy, smoky, rich, and delicious.

Fatback Pig Project

The pork chop was perfectly pink and meltingly tender from the first bite to the last.

Wild Heaven Funkenrauch

This was a great meal with even better service, we can’t wait to return.

From start to finish, this was an absolutely lovely meal on a perfectly beautiful day with bright blue skies.  Not one cloud dotted that perfect blue.

It was a beautiful day to wander, too.

Antiques & Beyond

Antiques & Beyond

We know these little trays should come with a matching tea tin.  We’ve recently seen the matching tea tin (without the trays) at another antique shop.  But, we’ll be using these as cocktail snack trays.  So, we have no need for that matching tea storage tin.

Summits Wayside Tavern

Summit’s Chicken Wings

Ten of these large wings were incredibly filling.  We wanted more.  But, we’ll have to wait until next time.  After 5 wings each, we were absolutely stuffed beyond belief.

Then, we did a bit of light reading.

Lexington Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale

(Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co.)

This was smooth blending of oaky bourbon barrel char and Kentucky Ale.  There is a definite deep dark smoky, complex vanilla sweetness here.  But, it’s doesn’t overpower.  I think it’s fair to say that this was one of the more enjoyably drinkable bourbon barrel aged ales that we’ve tried.  Yes, there’s quite a barrage of flavors.  But, here, they all play well together.

We had New Belgium’s Hop Kitchen Botanical Imperial IPA, too.

It was incredibly fresh and lovely… perfectly bright and citrus-y tart for spring.

We’d both love to have more of this one.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA

This one is always a winner.

And, we’re still loving it.  Simply put, it’s all things good.  It’s just right in every way.

Beautiful hops and malt, so incredibly enjoyable, drinkable… stunning

We want more.

Another Note:

We had carrot sticks with our chicken wings.  (Not the beer)  The portion of carrot sticks was incredibly generous.  Also, noteworthy, it’s clear these carrots were chopped into pieces quite recently.  They were fresh, plump, and sweet.  (Not dry, withered, and curled up into inedible twigs… as you see far too often next to a basket of chicken wings.)

Com Mai — Duck Noodle Soup

Just to be sure our love was true…

We’ve both ordered a few more bowls over the last couple months or so.  And, we’ll be sure to return time after time.  Each and every bowl was topped with meltingly tender duck.

Com Mai’s Duck Noodle Soup

With duck this buttery rich and tender, I doubt we’ll ever tire of this dish.

Shrimp Rolls

We had a few nibbles to start, too.

Just because…

Made to order, these were a sizzling hot start to our meal.

We weren’t in the mood to share.  So, we each got our own to go.

The Bayou Boil

What’s in that bucket?

All of the crab boils are served in plastic bags.  The king crab claws make the extraction a bit more challenging than the standard Bayou Boil bucket.

This boil bucket/bowl came with a generous amount of king crab.

King Crab, Mussels, & Shrimp

The House Special Spicy Boil

And…

If this isn’t spicy enough for you, they’ll make it even spicier.

The Bayou Boil Bucket

Again, the snow crab claws were huge.

There were plenty of huge crawfish, blue crab, shrimp, snow crab, potatoes, corn, and garlic.

Garlic, garlic… everywhere…

Hushpuppies

We probably wouldn’t order these again (any time soon).  While not horrible, these were much too dense and a bit bland.  Though, I’m sure we’ll give them another chance at some point.

Bayou Boil’s Beans & Rice

When you’re in the mood to play with your food, this is the place to go.

Again…

We’ll be back.  Again and again… and again.  We’re sure of it.

Las Margaritas

Las Margaritas

Cuban Mojito

“eh”

Sangria

“eh..”

Actually, that’s too generous.  This sangria was rather unpleasant.  And, the plastic glasses only underlined that fact.

Paella

With Chicken, Mussels, Calamari, Small Octopus,
& A Couple Scallops

Colombian Dog

That’s a whole lot (A LOT A LOT) of greasy canned potato sticks.

“Ugh, more potato sticks…”

This corn was tough, rubbery, and very chewy.  Given the unnaturally, hard rubbery chew nature of the corn, we can only assume it was frozen.

Fried Egg BLT

Simply, fine.

Biscuits & Sausage Gravy

In this version of the dish, it’s all about the gravy.  And, this is a great one.

Brussel Sprouts

With Feta, Bacon, & Lemon Vinaigrette

This large bowl could easily be a meal.  And, we both enjoyed this dish a great deal.  But, the sharp feta paired with such a powerful green was a bit overwhelming.  Now, if you were to take this exact dish and top it with crumbled goat cheese, it would be perfection.

Campania

Campania Pizzeria Napoletana

The Brunch Pizza

Every Sunday starting at noon…

Sweet & spicy red peppers, fresh basil, ricotta…

The ricotta, basil, and peppers are glorious together.

The Sofia

Sausage, (Pizza)Oven Roasted Red Peppers, Fontina,
Fior di Latte Mozzarella, Oregano, & Basil

Finished With Garlic Oil & Parmigiano-Reggiano

We each enjoyed every bite… right down to each one of our last slices.

Cracker crisp on the bottom, chewy inside…

This was another great meal at Campania.

We lingered long enough to enjoy a beer…

…or two.
