Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery Brunch

Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery will be celebrating its 6th Annual End of the Harvest Celebration & Bluegrass Brunch each Sunday of this month (October 12th, 19th, & 26th).  The brunch is $30 per person plus tax and gratuity.  Seating times will be 12:30pm and 2:30pm.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 706-867-9862.

With the colors changing, it’s a great time for a road trip!

Wolf Mountain Vineyards produce 2 white wines, 4 rosé & red wines, a demi-sec, a sparkling demi-sec, a Blanc de Blancs Brut, and a Brut Rosé.  Wolf Mountain Vineyards claim to be the first Georgia wimemakers to use the traditional French style Méthode Champenoise to produce their sparkling wines.  Their Blanc de Blancs Brut takes on a yeasty flavor imparted by aging en tirage (on the yeast) for almost a year.  And, their Brut Rosé is made by adding a dose of Claret to add color, complexity and a hint of red berry flavor.

October’s Bluegrass Brunch Menu with Regional Harvest Cuisine:

    * House Romaine Salad with Mandarin Orange, Artichoke & Pine Nuts tossed in an Herb Citrus Vinaigrette
    * Mini Cornbread Muffins
    * Egg, Sausage & Cheddar Cheese Casserole with Tarragon Cream
    * Creamed Spinach
    * Fried Truffled Mac ‘n’ Cheese
    * Chicken & Dumplings
    * Fried Tilapia Fingers with Remoulade Sauce
    * Carving Station – Smithfield Ham & Roasted Turkey Breast
    * Dessert – Hot Apple Crisp, Mini Key Lime Tarts and Cheesecakes, Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Wine is not included in the brunch price, but, can be purchased by the glass or bottle.

Urban Flats

The Setting:  Huge comfy booths, wooden tables & chairs and outdoor patio seating give you plenty of options for comfortable seating.  And, of course, there is a large bar that offers a view of their wine dispensing apparatus.

The Staff:  Friendly and helpful

The Food:  On a number of visits, the food has proven to be both reliable and interesting.  While not groundbreaking by any means, the 75% whole wheat flatbreads are full of flavor.  Rosemary and herbs add to their charm.

Fig jam, prosciutto, and a bleu cheese flat top my list of favorites.  While, it’s not the best version of this trio that I’ve had, it is still quite good.  And, obviously, pairs well with a number of wines on their list.  The Black and Bleu with steak, bell pepper, tomatoes and a balsamic glaze follow the leader closely.  The one change that I’d like to see occur would be the purchase of a mandoline.  The tomato slices were far too thick for my taste.  And, finally, the spicy shrimp and chorizo flat with chipotle sauce make the perfect partner to a frosty glass of Sweetwater.

Perfectly fresh salads and side vegetables round out the menu.  My order of spinach and mushrooms were delicately sauteed.  The spinach arrived to the table just-barely-wilted and bright green.  I couldn’t ask for more in a simple side item.

The chocolate fondue served with a platter of dunkable treats was a meal unto itself.  Accompanied by bits of pound cake, marshmallows, juicy strawberries and perfectly ripe pineapple, we enjoyed every bit of it.

Right now, when watching the nightly news has become a character-building experience that tests our courage and endurance, I need marshmallows dipped in melted chocolate.  I’m not looking for flashy, cutting-edge desserts.  I want warm, soothing melted chocolate.

Cagle's Dairy Farms — 2 locations — 2 mazes

Cagle’s Dairy Farm with their two locations double the cornfield maze fun with two different mazes… one at each location.  Or, more specifically, one in Canton/Hickory flat…

 …and one maze in six parts at River Bend near Resaca.

The River Bend location not only has 6 parts, but, one part is haunted.  Admission to the mazes at each location costs $10 per person.  The River Bend Haunted Maze that begins at dusk and continues through midnight is $12 per person.  For directions and other information check out their website here.

While you’re there, take a tour of the dairy, take a hayride, try the jumping pillow, let your kids play in the Kiddie Korral and pet the adorable calves in the calf barn.  If you’re lucky, you might arrive in time for one of their feedings.  On my last visit, I was offered a bottle to feed one of their beautiful calves.

And, before you leave… be sure to grab a SUPER fresh bottle of milk.  Their chocolate milk is out of this world!!
