Red Robin

The Setting:  An American memorabilia theme decorates the Lawrenceville location.  A bar with booths, tables and a huge American flag made out of painted baseballs greet you as you enter.  It’s a bright, casual and inviting restaurant that has a tendency of being a bit noisy.  This is a family friendly restaurant, likely to be [...]

Made From Scratch… at Hardee's??

Apparently Hardee’s have been making buttermilk biscuits “from scratch” for over 30 years!

A hectic weekend had us searching for a fast breakfast option.  We wandered into a Hardee’s and got in line.  As we were waiting in line, we saw a man in the back rolling out biscuit dough.  We looked at each other in amazement and [...]

Manhattan Special

Manhattan Special is a carbonated esspresso coffee soda that actually tastes like espresso.  It tastes far superior to any bottled or canned espresso-type product I’ve ever tasted.  It has none of the watered down quality of other bottled coffee products I’ve tried.  I’m really surprised that this isn’t more widely distributed.  The taste is significantly superior to [...]

Chinotto

Chinotto uses the flavor of a small bitter citrus fruit of the same name for this interesting sparkling soda.  It also makes a great addition to cockails.  The bittersweet flavor adds interest and complexity to our favorite mixed drinks.  Chinotto oranges are also used as a flavoring in Campari.  But, the flavor of chinotto in Campari is [...]

Hit & Miss at Canton House

Hits:  Custard tarts still warm from the oven, pineapple bread with sweet custard filling, a mildly sweet bread stuffed with shredded dry beef, shrimp sui mai and sticky rice in lotus leaf.

Misses:  All the other steamed dumplings we ordered were so badly overcooked that they were literally mush… falling apart before we could even bite into them.  [...]
