Royal Sweets

Delicious Day-glo colored Sweets from Royal Sweets

While all the sweets were lovely, we particularly enjoyed the figgy pinwheels.  Sadly, we don’t know the name of these treats.  Royal Sweets doesn’t label all of their treats.  We did find the laddu (toasted wheat and butter balls) a bit too buttery, [...]

Bakeshop

S’more Tart

The giant torched coconut marshmallow is the highlight of this tart for me.  I’d love it even more if it was torched to order.  Rich chocolate is tasty, but, the excessively buttery (greasy) tart crust is too much.  This tart is crazy rich.  It needs a significantly more delicate crust.

Buckhead Italian Market & Bakery

Pleasantly crisp, this cannoli is lightly dusted with cinnamon and the interior is brushed with a layer of chocolate.  The chocolate coating provides a barrier between cream and shell.  The cream is rich, dense and very lightly sweetened.  Simply put, this is a traditional Italian-American cannoli.  Personally, I love this simple [...]

More Mofongo! ...this time with shrimp

What’s better than mofongo?  Mofonjo with shrimp smothered in spicy red sauce.  We first visited the Dominican Restaurant & Bakery last year.  Check out those pictures here.

Mofongo is made of deep-fried plantains that have been smashed and fried again.  Then, they are coarsely mashed into a dome-shaped [...]

The Kosher Gourmet

With only a few bagels left, we were able to grab one of each remaining type.  One poppy, one egg and one everything, each bagel was soft and tender on the inside with a nice chew to the crust.  When asked where they got their bagels, they told us they make [...]

The Sweets @ Gokul Sweets

Ras Madhuri

Soft flattened balls of pastry are soaked in syrup then topped with a creamy fudge-like icing, pistachios, and garnished with a cherry.  The syrup-soaked cake-y balls have a texture much like a Cuban tres leches.  But, they’re richer… if you can imagine that.  The dense fudgy icing gives a clues [...]

Pav Bhaji Dosa & Sliders?

Pav Bhaji Dosa

Two of our favorite vegetarian spots for a quick meal are Chat Patti and Gokul Sweets.  We’ve been fans of Chat Patti for over 8 years and fans of Gokul Sweets for over a year.  But, since we’ve only been taking shots of our food diligently for a short [...]

Chestnut Honey @ Alon's Bakery

This chestnut honey from Alon’s Bakery is incredible.  It has a richness and intensity I’ve never seen before.  I think it’s the best chestnut honey I’ve ever been fortunate enough to taste.  With a price tag just over $15, it’s no bargain.  But, the quality is obvious from the terra cotta [...]

Lemon Walnut Raisin Bread

Lemon Walnut Raisin Bread

This loaf of Dekalb Farmer’s Market bread was startlingly good and fresh.  It was a lovely blend of clearly distinguishable flavors.  It was perfect toasted with butter.  We enjoyed it equally, if not more, with the last of our roasted turkey.  But, oddly, they sell a [...]
